The Geographic Display for Short-Term Data
The Data
The data displayed on the geographic tab is determined by the half-hour selected with the "point-in-time" selector mentioned in the description of the timeline and the timeline components. This selected half-hour can be adjusted within the selected time range and when changed, the data displayed will be changed to suit.
The Display
The geographic display used for the short-term viewer contains two main sections. The first is the map that shows the weather forecast data provided by BOM. The temperatures for each of the locations (the coloured squares) shown on the map are obtained by "hovering" the mouse over that square, at which point a tooltip will pop up displaying the forecasted maximum and minimum temperatures. It can be seen that as the location squares are coloured, the temperature forecasted for any location can be quicky surmised. Furthermore, by selecting the colouring options in the top right of the map, it is possible to colour the location squares by either maximum temperature or minimum temperature.
The second section of the geographic display is the NEM diagram on the right (shown highlighted below). Here the forecasted state of each region in the NEM as well as the forecasted state of the interconnectors between each of those regions is shown.
