the market's forecasts for the future"

Database Installation

The following instructions can be used to install the database required by NEMforecast and NEMforecastUpdater as well as configuring the database connections used by each program to access the database.

Step 1a: The first screen presented by the DataAccessManager Settings utility is shown below. If you are configuring NEMforecastUpdater, you can immediately set the dCyphaTrade Futures Settlement Database Connection to ignored as shown in Steps 1b and 1c below. However, if you are configuring NEMforecast, only set this connection to ignored if you DO NOT own a copy of our NEMFuturesUpdater. If you do own a copy of our NEMfuturesUpdater and have access to its database, you can setup a database connection for it, allowing NEMforecast to display even more data for you. If you are not sure if you have access to the NEMFuturesUpdater database, we recommend that you set the database connection to ignored as show in steps 1b and 1c, continue with the installation and setup of NEMforecast and then contact our support line.

Step 1b: Assuming you are configuring NEMforecastUpdater or do not own a copy of NEMFuturesUpdater, select the dCyphaTrade Futures Settlement Database Connection entry and then click the "Ignore Selected" button. The following message will be displayed; once you have read the message and still wish the ignore the Futures Settlement database connection, click "OK".

Step 1c: If you clicked OK in Step 1b, your list of available database connections will appear as follows.

Step 2: Now select the NEMforecast Database Connection entry and click on the "Configure Selected" button - the following screen is then shown. Currently, NEMforecast can only connect to databases contained in an MSSQL Server (Oracle etc are not yet supported) and as such, in the Database type selector, you can only select the NEMFORECAST_MSSQL entry.

Step 3a With the NEMFORECAST_MSSQL database type selected, click on the "New" button. You are now presented with a window that allows you to create a connection string that NEMforecast or NEMforecastUpdater will use to connect to the database. Firstly, enter a name for the connection (the name doesn't really matter, but it's a good idea to use something identifiable, e.g. NEMFORECAST_UPDATER_MSSQL_CONN1 or NEMFORECAST_MSSQL_CONN1). Next, you need to select the MSSQL Server that contains the database you wish to use and then provide the necessary username and password for that server (contact you system administrator if you are not sure what is required). Finally, you will need to select the database that you want to use from the database list (if the database you want is not listed, check to make sure you have selected the correct MSSQL Server and provided the correct username and password).

Now, if you are using a newly created database (i.e. the database has not been used by a previous v2.1.1 installation of NEMforecast) you will need to click the "Install Database" button to setup the necessary tables in the database. If this is the case, follow steps 3b.

Step 3b The following window is displayed if you selected to install the database. Follow the instructions given to prepare the database for use.

Step 7 Finally, click the "Test Connection" button - if the message displayed says that the connection was successful, click OK to return to the list of connection strings for the NEMforecast database connection. Your list shouls look similar to that shown below. If the Test Connection fails, check that your login details are correct and that you have selected a valid MSSQL Server and database. You cannot continue until you have created a valid connection string. Finally, select OK to return to the first screen, where the NEMforecast Database Connection entry should be marked as Valid (and the dCyphaTrade Futures Settlement Database Connection should be either be Ignored or Valid). To finish, select Done.
